Faced with the daunting task of trying to enhance improvements that City of Des Moines was making to the Redondo Boat Launch. The Redondo Community Group turned to Project Management Northwest to help them turn their community’s 2004 centennial celebration dream into reality.

The Community selected a $50,000 arbor improvement project that the city had deemed too expensive, as the statement to their heritage.

Turning the dream into reality

Project Management Northwest developed a decision criteria with the Community Advisory Team, the City of Des Moines and the original concept designer to establish a criteria for quality, schedule and affordability.  A scaled down version of the arbors was selected that required more that $30,000 of combined donated labor and material to accomplish.

PMNW took on the task of developing the Work Breakdown Structure, establishing the donor lists, and coordinating the diverse support groups.  We provided the detailed column and arbor designs and coordinated with the city to change the design of the footings and electrical services to satisfy or client’s desires.

Reaching the funding goal

Obtaining donated labor, material and funding for purchases quickly became the tent pole of project.  The Project Management Northwest team worked with local ‘not for profit’ organizations to sponsor the project and to provide banking services, but eventually established a Redondo Centennial Arbors Committee as the sponsor for the project and the City of Des Moines as the banker.  Working with the Committee, a letterhead was established and funding request letter was circulated to civic-minded companies in the area.

An overview package was prepared by PMNW and submitted to King County for $20,000 in funds to help the community celebrate its history.  King County accepted the proposal and they provided a check for the entire amount requested to the City of Des Moines ftp support the project’s completion.
